Integral Fast Reactor which could burn the plutonium and uranium from the decommissioned nuclear weapons.
So far I have not been able to decide if the IFR process is a boon or a boondoggle, or just a doggle, maybe one that would end up spewing plutonium across the countryside when the sodium coolant catches fire. The wonderful prospect is that IFR will burn up waste from the other types of reactors. But it is very expensive and though it has a lot of neat safety features, sodium is not your basic safe substance, so how do we know how safe it really is?
