Re: International Education Week
sum

This looks like a smart direction to me.  One of us four, Jain, Savannah, Monique or myself should be on the panel to explain the InterMix project and ask the audience to sign up on a couple signup sheets we would circulate.  I will ask Bronwyn Galloway, Chair of UNA-SF Women's Committee if she would like to be on the panel on the topic of preventing violence against women.

As I see it, we should begin considering having coordinated IWD 2014 events on campuses globally, starting with SFSU.  Having a local event gives our online InterMix project the focus it needs.  At each event, the two winning messages will be read and, if the Exec Dir Mlambo-Ngcuka has not already agreed to reply, the attendees at each event will be encouraged to email her and ask her to reply.

Here is the email that Jain forwarded to me:

College of Liberal and Creative Arts: Now accepting proposals for International Education Week!

Dear students,

The Office of International Programs is now accepting proposals for International Education Week! This year it will take place between November 12-15, 2013.

San Francisco State hosts the LARGEST International Education Week in the country. Students, faculty, and staff participate in a wide-range of activities designed to increase knowledge of the world's cultures, peoples, and languages. It also promotes exchange programs. Participation in this event is not only a great way to build your tenure/promotion portfolio, but also supports SF State's commitment to promoting internationalism on campus.

The attached flyer provides more information about the ways you can participate, including (but not limited to) hosting "open classrooms," organizing film screenings, and organizing panel presentations on a variety international education-related subjects. It also includes instructions on how to propose an event.

In the past, faculty have encouraged their students' participation in IEW events by designing projects around IEW and/or offering extra credit for their participation. We invite you to adapt the attached "Extra Credit Form" to suit your needs.

For more information, please feel free to contact Jay Ward, Associate Director of OIP

Thanks for helping us make IEW a success!
