UNA-SF Communications Chair
The San Francisco Chapter of the United Nations Association is aiming to convene San Francisco's strong civil society in support of the UN and its noble purposes.
Please join us on January 9th. We begin with San Francisco, but it is the entire Bay Area metro region that needs a powerful collective voice for its civic sector if we are to prosper in a global future that must move towards sustainability and social justice.
UNA SF Bay Area Council of Organizations
Vision, Structure and Action: Getting Organized
First Meeting for 2014 – 5:30 Jan 9, AAACC
The January 9th meeting will be hosted by UNA-SF. Dinner and wine will be provided. The hat will be passed for donations. RSVP by joining the event on facebook or email Roger Eaton.
Venue: African American Arts and Culture Complex, 762 Fulton St, SF 94102 – free parking in the AAACC lot to the right of the building. We will be meeting in the spacious Hall of Culture on the third floor.
Doors open: 5:30
Meeting begins: 6:00
Vision: Chris Whatley, Exec Director, UNA-USA tentatively scheduled.
Structure: The meeting will open with a discussion on COO structure led by UNA-SF COO co-chairs Eliz Weinberg and Roger Eaton to cover a) Membership, b) Executive Committee(?) and c) Regular Meetings.
Action: After a short break we will consider three possible avenues of action for the Council. Please note, these possibilities are not mutually exclusive. First, we will surely want to help organize a bang-up celebration of the UN 70th Anniversary in October, 2015. Second, there is the possibility of UN post-2015 Development Goals followup. And third, there is the wonderful but perhaps too ambitious goal of sparking a grand civic/business/government coalition to conduct a globally conscious “metro makeover” for the Bay Area.
Depending on how the discussion develops, we may want to break out into committees to begin developing concrete action plans. Clearly we need stepping stones: ideas for how we can get things moving are most welcome.
The business part of the get-together will end at 8:00 PM, so there will be plenty of time for people to mix and talk and have another glass of wine before we close the doors at 8:45 to allow clean up and departure by 9:00.
If you have additional ideas for the agenda, please send them along.
Happy Holidays to All!
