UNA SF Bay COO Core Collaborators Meeting Feb 25
sum

Dear Friends of UNA SF Bay Area Council of Organizations (COO),

For those who missed it, our Jan 9th meeting at the African American Arts and Culture Complex (AAACC) had spirit and a sense that we are going to make a difference in the Bay Area. You can check out the blog for the event here.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, March 13 also at the AAACC, 762 Fulton St, SF.  Doors open at 5:30, and meeting begins at 6:00. Please add it to your calendar. Another notice will go out with more details closer in.

Coming right up this Tuesday, Feb 25th, also at the AAACC is our first Core Collaborators meeting. Doors open at 5:30. Food and drinks will be provided. $5-10 donation will be requested. We do need to pay our way as best we can and not place a burden on the UNA-SF treasury. Meeting begins at 6.

Our Core Collaborators are an open committee and everyone on this list is more than welcome to join us on Tuesday. Rsvp to rogerweaton@gmail.com. We are seriously considering using collective impact as the framework for our organizing efforts. Please read about it here. Collective impact specifies five major items that are required for a group of organizations such as our Council to make a difference. One of these five elements is that we need a “backbone organization”. The Core Collaborators will fill the role of backbone for the COO as we start up.

Our agenda for Tuesday, Feb 25:

1) More about what membership means, including what to do if a member organization disagrees with a published policy of the Council.

2) We already agree we support the noble goals of the UN - peace, human rights, sustainable development and so forth.  I would like to propose that we adopt an ambitious mission to unite Bay Area civil society in support of those UN goals.

3) I would also hope we might agree to use the Collective Impact framework for organizing ourselves.

4) Are we agreed on making the UN 70th for Oct 24, 2015 our centerpiece activity?

5) March 13th meeting - agenda, format, speaker(s)?

6) What committees should we have?  At our last meeting people signed up as follows:
a) Core Collaborators: 10
b) Women’s Movement: 5
c) Human Rights: 9
d) Outreach: 3
e) Volunteers: 2
f) Fundraising: 1
g) Web: 2
h) Gender Crosstalk: 2
i) Peace: 3
j) UN Global Compact Sustainability Center: 2
k) one each for: UNPA * UN Charter Review * UN Parliamentary Assembly * Language Rights * Welcoming Committee * Nuclear Disarmament * Sustainability * Internships

That’s it!  See you at 5:30 day after tomorrow,
