Dear Friends of UNA SF Bay COO,
Please mark your calendar for the evening of March 13th. We will meet at the African American Arts and Culture Complex at 762 Fulton, same as our Jan 9th meeting. Doors open at 5:30. Meeting begins at 6:00 and ends at 8:00 with half an hour after for networking. Please bring potluck for 6 and a drink or be sure to let me know to bring a sandwich and drink for you. We will be asking $5-10 donation at the door to defray costs of the room.
We had a good meeting of our Core Collaborators group on Feb 25th with eight of us in attendance. Please be sure to read the writeup of that meeting with the beginning of an online discussion at http://sfcoo.intermix.org/items/1771/view. The question of the structure of our nascent Council is very much up for discussion still, and that will be the first order of business next Thursday evening.
We will stick to the same format we had Jan 9th: Vision, Structure and Action. For Vision, we have the good fortune to have secured Matt Duffy as speaker from FSG, social impact consultants, which has an office here in San Francisco. He will speak about Collective Impact, which our Core Collaborators group has adopted as our organizing framework.
For Structure, we will discuss questions of membership, voting, the role of the Core Collaborators group, leadership and more. The Core Collaborators decided the following on Feb 25th: we are happy to be a project of UNA-SF; our mission is to unite the Bay Area in support of UN goals; UN 70th Anniversary Oct 24th, 2015 will be our central activity for now; we are going to use the five principles of collective impact as our organizing framework; we will post both the logo and the mission statements of participating organizations on our website. If anyone is not happy with these decisions, our discussion about structure would be the time to bring it up.
For Action, we will discuss how to best get moving on the UN 70th Anniversary. Please bring your thinking caps.
So that’s it. You might want to go to our online forum by clicking a link in the email you receive that has this message in it. We have a new “subgroups” feature. You can click the subgroups button at the top of the online page and join the Core Collaborators subgroup. Items posted online in a subgroup go out by email only to subgroup members, but any member can go online and check out the subgroup discussions. The idea is to curtain off committee chatter to save bandwidth, while still preserving transparency.
Thanks all, I will be calling around to see if you can make it next Thursday.
