HALO Afghanistan: 25 Years Clearing the Deadly Debris of War
Deminer clears around homes in Kwaja Ghar, Afghanistan.
Dear Friend,
Please join us for a lunchtime talk with the HALO Trust's Program Manager in Afghanistan, Dr. Farid Homayoun, at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco on Thursday, June 19th. This is a unique opportunity to hear from the senior Afghan manager about HALO's oldest and largest program.
For 25 years, continuously despite regime changes, HALO has removed landmines and unexploded ordnance from Afghanistan to directly assist over 1.6 million families. The BBC recently featured HALO Afghanistan as an example of aid that works in the war-torn country. Yet in Afghanistan in 2014, one million people still live within 500 yards of a mined area.
Dr. Homayoun was the first HALO employee recruited in 1988 and now manages a team of over 3,000 local staff. He will discuss the good progress that has been made to rid Afghanistan of the deadly debris of war and the challenges that remain.
Tickets can be purchased on the Commonwealth Club's website.
I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Amy Currin
Development Director
