Between now and August 19th, we want to bring in a dozen new organizations to our Council.
The Aug 19th meeting will be in the Martin Luther King Room at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church at 1187 Franklin St, San Francisco, at the corner of Franklin and Geary. Doors open at 5:30. Meeting begins at 6:00. Potluck - please bring a dish for six and a drink. that's Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
The "action" component of our meeting will focus on the upcoming Oct 19th celebration of UN 69th Anniversary. We will be asking all attendees to make a list for their personal outreach. We want to fill the room for the UN 69th.
Plans are well along for the Oct 19th Celebration of the 69th UN Anniversary. Download the preliminary flyer here. There will be two sessions, first a morning church service handled by the UU UNO-Office followed by a luncheon which is where the Council of Organizations comes in more directly. Our October 19th theme will be human rights. Keynote speaker at the luncheon will be Shannon Biggs of Global Exchange.
After the Keynote on Oct 19th, we will break out into discussion tables. Each table will have its own topic. Between now and our August meeting, we will be doing outreach to recruit organizations to head up the conversation at each table. If you belong to an organization that works on issues that have an intersection point with Human Rights, then please, contact Roger Eaton or others of the UN 69th Subgroup. For instance, did you know that the UN Human Rights Council is working hard at developing a "Right to Peace"? So we will be looking to bring in peace organizations to have a breakout discussion on that development, and so forth. This is all pretty exciting and actually gets the UN 69th Committee worried that the noise in the room will be too much, and we have made plans to spill over into an adjoining room to spread things out. (;-)
So don't miss our August 19th run-up to the Oct 19th event. Please put it on your calendar now.
