agenda

1. Quick self-introductions, with first time attendees invited to take a couple minutes.

2. Pablo Castro, President of UNA-SF will speak about UNA-SF for 10-15 minutes.  UNA-SF is a member of the UNA SF Bay Area Council of Organizations and at the same time the Council is a project of UNA-SF.

3. We will have a report on the UN 69th Anniversary Human Rights Luncheon scheduled for October 19 at the UU Church followed by discussion.  Tickets to the luncheon will be available with the idea that we will take several and sell to friends and colleagues. Please sign up for the UN 69th event on Facebook and invite your FB friends who live in the area: http://www.facebook.com/events/1444768389108958/.

4. We will have a report on the UN 70th followed by discussion.  There is an exciting possibility that we will be able to secure UN Women Exec Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to keynote a big celebration at the War Memorial.  There is a likelihood that a plaque designating the War Memorial as the birthplace of the UN will be unveiled with important politicians participating.  The first meeting of the all important UN 70th Committee will be August 30, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the African American Arts and Culture Complex (AAACC), 752 Fulton St in San Francisco. Free parking in the lot next door.

5. If we have time, we will discuss the future of the UNA San Francisco Bay Area Council of Organizations.  Our UN 69th event is looking good, and we have some very exciting possibilities for UN 70th, but growth of the UNA SF Bay COO is too slow.  The idea of bringing together Bay Area organizations that support the goals of the United Nations would seem a good one, but the reality so far is that except for the UN Anniversaries, we have not come up with a program that makes it worthwhile for most organizations to divert scarce time and resources from each organization’s separate work.  We need some ideas, and we need people to do outreach.
