October 11th - International Day of the Girl
"On this International Day of the Girl Child, I call on all governments to take action to end all forms of violence against girls in all parts of the world. Together, we must create a world where violence against women and girls is never tolerated and girls are always empowered to reach their full potential. "
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Greetings All:
This is a special day for me.
As a little girl, I had many aspirations, and loved to sing, dance, be vibrant, exude life!
I lived fully, without doubt, in faith, committed to completion toward my goals.
Yet the world reflected a different idea. Power, influence, and opportunity seemed to be given to the hands of a different group, boys.
Reflecting on this, I studied this 'being', one who oddly seemed to be captivated by, none other than, girls!
What a strange picture, from a child's view.

For this reason, this child began to meditate on the measure of equality, seeing the differences between girls and boys.
She discovered that the perceived and real differences between boys and girls are a source of beauty and profundity, as are the commonalities between human beings.
The real challenge is to live and love together, with mutual respect and honor.

Celebrating International Day of the Girl demonstrates our human growth, in that girls today, and girls of the future, have greater opportunity to reach their highest potential.
Humankind should aim to reach the great ideals of love, peace and harmony,
with grace and humility,
respecting all life.
Have a blessed International Day of the Girl, in this special month October,
as we remember and revitalize in our hearts,
the birth of the United Nations, the spirit and message of the UN Charter.
-
In peace,
Elizabeth Weinberg
