A Message for Peace

Dear Friends:

We are approaching the 69th Anniversary of the United Nations; inseparable from the 69th anniversary of a most significant and impacting act of warfare in human history, the dropping of two atomic bombs, on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, at the conclusion of WWII.

Given our current world situation, with crisis upon crisis, inflicting harm; with human conflict, environmental de-stabilization and climate change, and rampant spread of life-threatening diseases - we must look at our history, and ask ourselves, where do we go from here?

Ironically, war has been promoted to attain peace, yet can peace be won with war?

What logic reconciles killing upon killing, perpetuating the cycle of violence infinitely.

Has the war machine, whether aggressive or defensive, become a status quo and way of life?

If love is one answer and way, how can we reach our brothers and sisters, to "love to peace."

Consider our parents, grandparents, and ancestors, who have dealt with war outcomes- many generations fighting the wars of their times and struggling for a quality and sustainable life.

I hope to see you at upcoming UN Day events in San Francisco and Berkeley:

The importance of dialogue, communication, mutual and diverse understanding and support, can not be underestimated in this day and age.  We must resolve our internal conflicts of the heart.

A ripple can cross the ocean, a calm mind can appease the tide.

Blessings and peace for a reflective 69th Anniversary UN Day celebration.
