This is going out to the UNA SF Bay Council of Organizations list and also to the UN 70th list. There is considerable overlap, so apologies if you get this message twice.
First, very importantly, we are looking for dozens of people to sign up to advise and help with our UN 70th efforts. Please fill out the following short SurveyMonkey form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YVYF2LC.
The meeting will be in the Martin Luther King room at the Unitarian-Universalist Church at 1187 Franklin St in San Francisco. Doors open at 5:30, meeting begins at 6:00. If you would like to bring potluck, that would be very welcome.
We have a major discussion we need to hold. The current setup of the COO as both a project of UNA-SF and a network with UNA-SF as a member is too ambiguous and UNA USA Director Chris Whatley has made it clear that to be part of UNA, the COO has to be unambiguously under a UNA chapter or division.
In the short run that means we can still call ourselves a Council and we can have our own Exec Committee (the Core Collaborators is our exec committee), and we can basically continue as we have, but we must consider ourselves to be a Committee under UNA-SF and UNA-SF cannot be just another member of the COO. I think this will work out OK. The COO has previously agreed we are a project of UNA-SF, but clearly we need to discuss and agree our role.
We also have two or three possible new organizational members, and we can go over the successful UN 69th event on October 19th which we co-sponsored.
In the second part of the evening, we will discuss our UN 70th Feasibility Study. Mary Steiner is taking the lead in the study, and she and I both are assuming the COO is fully supportive both of the study and of the actual event if we find it is feasible. We would like to make that official. Also, I am in process of setting up a DBA (doing business as) for UNA-SF under the name UNA SF Council of Organizations. We will have a bank account under this name. Although under the COO's name, this bank account will be a UNA-SF account. Donations will be tax-deductible. The plan is to use it for our UN 70th event, if we get that far. Again, the Core Collaborators need to approve.
Finally the floor will be open for a UN 70th brainstorming session. The meeting will be officially over at 7:30, but we don't need to be out until 8:00.
