Two Exciting UN 70th Charter Day Events in June
sum

This is going out to friends of the UNA SF Council of Organizations. These two events celebrate the historic signing of the UN Charter in San Francisco on June 26, 1945.

1.  UN SG Ban Ki-moon's visit to SF is now officially scheduled for the UN's 70th Anniversary of Charter Day, on 26 June, Friday, marking the historic signing of the Charter.  This is THE UN event to celebrate the occasion. The SG will be in SF for about 24 hours, with a tight schedule from evening the 25th, sandwiched between his international obligations.

UNA-USA and UNF have been at the forefront with the SG's senior staff and SF dignitaries to arrange Ban's program.  Chris Whatley and UNF's Kathy Calvin were briefly in SF recently for intensive preparatory sessions, including with city officials and corporate leaders.  Chris briefed Pablo Castro and Mary Steiner of UNA-SF and Herb Behrstock of UNA East Bay over dinner.

The Anniversary's public event has now been confirmed for 12 noon at SF City Hall -- to which UNA leaders, members and friends will be invited to attend, along with VIPs, other civic groups and the public.  Advance reservations will be required -- at no charge.  This procedure is not so much due to a space limitation. but rather for purposes of crowd management and security.  Info about how to register will go out on this channel as soon as it becomes available.

SG Ban may have a short side-meeting to greet UNA leaders.  However, that program detail cannot yet be confirmed.

2. Keep the Dream Alive! The United Nations 70th Anniversary, June 27, 9 am to 6 pm, Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. See event details here.

In Celebration of the signing Of The United Nations Charter in San Francisco 1945, this Historical event include speakers, educational workshops, and a Special concert, The Way Chose You, inspired by Dag Hammarskjold’s spiritual journal Markings, and sung by The Swedish Choir Kloster Vocalis. The 15th Anniversary of URI will also be folded into this event which will be held At Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.  The event will hold up the Sustainable Development Goals, encourage a Season of Peace Education about UN Values from June – October. It will also  incorporate artistic gifts honoring the depth and global commitments of the Late United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld.
