Today is World Malaria Day
sum

Lives are still at stake. Each year, malaria infects over 200 million people, killing nearly one million, the vast majority of whom are children under the age of 5 living in poverty. Every 60 seconds—every 60 seconds!—a child in Africa dies from malaria.

Today is World Malaria Day, a day to pause and raise awareness about this major health issue that nearly half the world’s population faces. Because of this, the United Nations has included reversing the incidence of malaria as part of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The UN has shown that, by taking action, we can make a lifesaving difference in stopping malaria. Between 2000 and 2012, the substantial expansion of malaria interventions led to a 42 per cent decline in malaria mortality rates globally. In the decade since 2000, 3.3 million deaths from malaria were averted, and the lives of three million young children were saved.

UNA-USA is hard at work ensuring ALL MDG goals are met—particularly those that likely have the greatest impact on helping the most vulnerable among us. Won’t you help us?

Please stand with UNA-USA as it ensures American support of the UN’s work against this deadly disease by making an online tax-deductible gift to UNA-USA now.

Thank you for having compassion AND taking action today!
