AGENDA/REPORTS
Women’s Strike
October 24 (UN Day) in 1975 involved 90% of Iceland women taking part in the first "women's strike" organized by a feminist group called Red Stockings. They left their homes and jobs and shut down the entire country; men could barely cope. In the next year a law was enacted guaranteeing equal pay, and within five years the country had a female President.
UN Day is coming up October 2015 including events with our UNA-SF chapter
We are considering a local (CA particularly SF to LA), national (U.S.) or global strike; Roger is particularly supportive of a global one
There is a separate "Global Women's Strike" at globalwomenstrike.net underway demanding a living wage for mothers and other carers
UNA-SF President (Pablo) has asked our committee to research the two types of strikes (perhaps combining the two) and to report back to the directors during the May 13 board meeting, which is one week away
