In response to Bronwyn's ideas,
For our name, I am inclined to use the word "Strike" at least while we get things going. We will need committed people to make anything happen at all, and "Strike" has more energy in it. We may indeed decide eventually to tone it down.
Good phrase: women's work is "undervalued, underpaid or unpaid". It is really true that the jobs with more women in them are paid less. And let's not forget the important unpaid work in the home women do caring for their family.
Gender equality includes equal pay and political representation, and also equal education and implies, too, women's empowerment and an end to violence against women.
Local to global is the motto here. We start local and work up to global. This is where I am thinking the international campaign for Cities for CEDAW is a natural avenue to spread the word about a Women's Strike.
For IWD 2016 here in San Francisco, we need to decide if we want to move towards a women's strike by having a mini-strike - something like an extended lunch - or if we should have events under the "strike" name for the first year and wait for 2017 IWD when we are stronger and more organized for the first action.
The UNA Gender Crosstalk is being expanded to include an inter-generational dimension as well. This could be the key for a successful Bay Area wide campaign -- very much including a C4C push.
