Dear UNA SF Members and Friends:
I hope you are all well and looking forward to our big date. On Saturday, June 27, 2015, we are celebrating UN Charter Day. The United Nations Charter was signed here in San Francisco on June 26, 1945, UNA SF will be celebrating this historic event.
A great UN Charter Day Committee led by UNA SF, Grace Cathedral and the United Religions Initiative, has been working hard for months and we are now ready to invite everyone. We want you to attend; I think that you will be very proud of what has been prepared; please visit http://un70charter.org to register for the June 27th event. You must register to attend. I also want to announce that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrives on June 26th and a public reception is planned at San Francisco City Hall, with the Mayor, Representative Nancy Pelosi and the Diplomatic Corps. The programs for the SF celebration are now posted on one of the United Nations websites as well as in the UNA USA site. UNA SF is proud to be receiving requests for information from people who will travel from other states to participate on this historic occasion.
However, as I’m sure you realize, everything costs money and though we are receiving donations, we are concerned about the need to cover expenses. Companies that we have contacted are donating food, coffee and water, but we are expecting over 1000 people and we require your help and contribution. We could use donations of $5.00 and $10.00 or $50.00, whatever amount you are comfortable with. Admission to the events will be free to anyone; however, you and I realize that to put together this kind of project it takes funds.
Please make a contribution to UNA SF in whatever amount you are comfortable with; you will be proud of being part of the great success of UN70 Charter Day we will have. Donors and sponsors will be invited to breakfast at the Fairmont Hotel. In 1945 historic meetings and negotiations took place at the Fairmont with UN delegates from 50 countries and many contributing advisory organizations. Meet member diplomats from the UN and UNA USA from New York and Washington D.C. Meet the Consuls General, US Government Representatives, UNA members from other UNA Chapters and advocates for the magnificent work that the United Nations performs around the world.
