A relatively easy action for all of us is to write a letter to the editor of our local paper. It would be great if you would also post that letter here in Voices of Humanity. VoH is now implementing our "Together and Apart" collective conversations. When that is ready, we will restart our outreach. Meanwhile please do join in!
Here is my letter that I am sending today. For more info about the San Francisco restaurant initiative see https://www.perennialfarming.org/restoreca.
To the Editor of the SF Chronicle,
Sustainable Farming. The Chronicle's article last month on Carbon Neutral Meals has stuck with me. San Francisco restaurants are working to fund needed changes in farming practices by charging diners an extra one percent. That’s a pointer in the right direction. Farmers who want to change to a sustainable method are faced with a huge hurdle. The first two or three years of the changeover are going to cost them a fortune. Once over that hurdle odds are they will do even better than they do now financially and the new methods will help immensely not only with climate change, but with the devastating decline in wildlife the world is experiencing. California could take the lead as it has in solar power with a massive sustainable farming program to include loans, direct funding, advice and networking. Why not? The cost of not acting is even more.
