There is only one reply possible and it may not be a good one. The argument is that nukes raise the cost of war to unsustainable levels. Having many nuclear-capable nations is therefor a good thing because it reduces the chances of any nuclear-capable country going to war against another one.
But what about most of the world which is not nuclear-capable? Or do they have to depend on a nuclear-capable friend? Israel wisely decided it couldnt afford to depend on the US or Europe.
No country has declared on Israel since its had nukes. No country has declared war on Russia or NATO members or India or Pakistan since theyve had nukes.
(Actually hardly country has declared war on any other country for a long time -- possibly one of the salutory effects of global nuclearization. Nuclearization has replaced ordered warfare with terrorist chaos. You might think that a good thing, it might be an improvement.)
