It is a great article, for sure, and without a major transformation civilization will collapse, but no hope? Really?
Peace, for example, would allow us to put the military to work planting and caring for forests. Nuclear disarmament would be a sign that the nations can trust each other after all, and full cooperation on climate issues would begin immediately. Greater equality on all fronts would bring everyone on board with the project, creating a sense of momentum and togetherness that would motivate even the most cynical to add their efforts.
So all we need to do is establish world peace, nuclear disarmament and greater equality. Hmm - sounds like we need to come up with a plan. Maybe we could use the internet to give collective voices to the genders and ages, and to humanity-as-one. That would build a heartfelt global consciousness. If we start now what would it take, five years? ten?
