Iran-Israel-USA: Tension Reduction Urgently Needed
sum

Iran and Israel are trading threats following the One April 2024 Israeli strike on the Iranian commanders of the Islamic Revolutionarey Guard Corps. The Damascus strike was the most recent in a series since late 2023 against members of the Revolutionary Guards.  The Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has warned of retaliatory measures.

Some U.S. officials have said "Iran is calibrating its plans for a major retaliatory strike against Israel to send a message - but not to spark a regional war that compels Wasington to respond." Neveertheless, the U.S. has moved its aircraft carrier, the USS Dwight Eisenhower into the area as a warning to Iran.  The U.S. government by its president has vowed publicly to defend Israel.

Against the backdrop of armed conflict in Gaza and increasing violence on the West Bank, the risk of miscalculations leading to a wider conflict is a real possibility.  Measures can be misinterpreted as being more hostile than originallly intended.  Therefore, Iran-Israel-USA tension reduction measures are urgently needed.  There are not many governmental avuenues of communication that function among these three governments although all are members of the United Nations. We must try to see what non-governmental organizations might be able to do to facilitate negotiations in good faith.
