This is not just another academic paper. The results of the paper show that we have a highly significant pool of scientific potential that is not being utilized. Our times require that all people be at the top of their game. We are facing global problems that are very complex and difficult to tackle. That we are wasting our talents would be inexcusable in any case, but in the current circumstances (climate change, nuclear arsenals, escalating inequality and much more), we truly cannot afford not to be at our best.
The so-called "subtle gender biases" need to be undermined at the level of the basic social contract. That is, we need to build gender equality in to the foundation of global society.
